The innovative dimpled surface creates enhanced capillary action compared to traditional flat foam dressings. This means exudate is distributed throughout the entire dressing rather than pooling at the wound site, resulting in longer wear time and fewer dressing changes. In clinical testing, Mepilex Up demonstrated better fluid handling capacity than comparable foam dressings from Smith & Nephew (Allevyn Gentle), Coloplast (Biatain Silicone NB), Convatec (Aquacel Foam), and Essity (Cutimed Siltec).
As a non-bordered dressing, Mepilex Up requires secondary fixation such as tape, a bandage, or a compression wrap. Its thin, conformable profile makes it ideal for difficult-to-dress body areas. The breathable, water-resistant backing film secures fluid within the dressing while allowing excess moisture to evaporate. A printed backing film allows easy product recognition.
Mepilex Up is available in 6 sizes: 5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, 15 x 15cm, 10 x 20cm, 20 x 20cm, and 20 x 50cm. All sizes are sold in sterile boxes and can be used under compression bandages.
Clinical results: In a study of 68 patients with moderately to heavily exuding venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers, 71.4% of wounds were assessed as improved or healed from baseline to follow-up, with a median wound area reduction of 63% and a median wear time of 5 days.
If your wound does not require the enhanced fluid spreading of Mepilex Up, see Mepilex Foam Dressings for standard non-bordered foam. If you need antimicrobial silver protection, see Mepilex Ag Dressings. If you prefer a self-adherent dressing with a built-in border, see Mepilex Border Flex Dressings. For thinner coverage on low-exudate wounds, see Mepilex Border Flex Lite Dressings.
