Mepilex Up is Molnlycke's next-generation non-bordered foam dressing, replacing the discontinued Mepilex XT. Featuring a patented dimpled foam structure, Mepilex Up spreads fluid in all directions — even against gravity — to minimize the risk of leakage. Built with Safetac silicone wound contact technology for gentle adhesion that reduces pain and trauma at every dressing change.

The innovative dimpled surface creates enhanced capillary action compared to traditional flat foam dressings. This means exudate is distributed throughout the entire dressing rather than pooling at the wound site, resulting in longer wear time and fewer dressing changes. In clinical testing, Mepilex Up demonstrated better fluid handling capacity than comparable foam dressings from Smith & Nephew (Allevyn Gentle), Coloplast (Biatain Silicone NB), Convatec (Aquacel Foam), and Essity (Cutimed Siltec).

As a non-bordered dressing, Mepilex Up requires secondary fixation such as tape, a bandage, or a compression wrap. Its thin, conformable profile makes it ideal for difficult-to-dress body areas. The breathable, water-resistant backing film secures fluid within the dressing while allowing excess moisture to evaporate. A printed backing film allows easy product recognition.

Mepilex Up is available in 6 sizes: 5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, 15 x 15cm, 10 x 20cm, 20 x 20cm, and 20 x 50cm. All sizes are sold in sterile boxes and can be used under compression bandages.

Clinical results: In a study of 68 patients with moderately to heavily exuding venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers, 71.4% of wounds were assessed as improved or healed from baseline to follow-up, with a median wound area reduction of 63% and a median wear time of 5 days.

If your wound does not require the enhanced fluid spreading of Mepilex Up, see Mepilex Foam Dressings for standard non-bordered foam. If you need antimicrobial silver protection, see Mepilex Ag Dressings. If you prefer a self-adherent dressing with a built-in border, see Mepilex Border Flex Dressings. For thinner coverage on low-exudate wounds, see Mepilex Border Flex Lite Dressings.

Mepilex Up Foam Dressings FAQ
What is the difference between Mepilex XT and Mepilex Up?
Mepilex Up replaces Mepilex XT with an improved dimpled foam structure that spreads fluid in all directions — including against gravity — to reduce leakage. It also features a thinner profile, better breathability through higher moisture vapour loss, and improved fluid retention. Both use Molnlycke's Safetac silicone wound contact technology for gentle, pain-free dressing changes.
What wounds is Mepilex Up used for?
Mepilex Up is designed for a wide range of exuding wounds in all healing stages, including leg and foot ulcers, pressure injuries, skin tears, and secondary healing wounds. It handles low to high exudate levels and works well both with and without compression.
Can Mepilex Up be used under compression?
Yes. Mepilex Up is ideal under compression wraps and can be held in place with secondary fixation when necessary. Its low profile and conformability make it well-suited for use under compression bandaging systems commonly used for venous leg ulcers.
How long can Mepilex Up stay on?
The dressing change interval may be several days depending on wound condition and exudate level. In the clinical study, the median wear time was 5 days. Change the dressing before it is fully saturated, at signs of leakage, or as indicated by clinical practice.
What sizes does Mepilex Up come in?
Mepilex Up is available in six sizes: 5x5cm (Art. 212015, 5/box), 10x10cm (Art. 212100, 5/box), 15x15cm (Art. 212300, 5/box), 10x20cm (Art. 212200, 5/box), 20x20cm (Art. 212400, 5/box), and 20x50cm (Art. 212500, 2/box). All are sterile packed.
How does Mepilex Up compare to other foam dressings?
In laboratory testing, Mepilex Up demonstrated better fluid handling capacity than comparable foam dressings including Smith & Nephew Allevyn Gentle, Coloplast Biatain Silicone NB, Convatec Aquacel Foam, and Essity Cutimed Siltec. The patented dimpled foam structure provides enhanced capillary action that distributes exudate throughout the dressing to minimize leakage.
