The Mepilex range divides into two main groups: bordered dressings (Mepilex Border) that are self-adherent and require no secondary fixation, and non-bordered dressings (Mepilex Foam, Lite, Up, Ag, Transfer, and Heel) that require tape, a retention bandage, or compression wrap to hold them in place. Within the Border range, there are 5 specialized sub-types for different wound needs.

What is the difference between bordered and non-bordered Mepilex dressings?
Bordered Mepilex dressings (the Border range) have a built-in self-adherent silicone border and do not require any additional fixation. Non-bordered dressings (Foam, Lite, Up, Ag, Transfer, Heel) require secondary fixation such as tape, a retention bandage, or compression wrap. Choose bordered when convenience and ease of application matter. Choose non-bordered when you need flexibility in how the dressing is secured, or when using it under compression therapy.
What is Safetac technology?
Safetac is Molnlycke's proprietary soft silicone adhesive technology used across all Mepilex dressings. It adheres gently to intact skin without sticking to the moist wound bed, which minimizes pain during dressing changes and reduces trauma to fragile or healing skin. Safetac also seals wound edges to help prevent exudate leakage and reduce the risk of maceration.
Which Mepilex dressing should I choose for high exudate?
For high exudate wounds, Mepilex Up (non-bordered with dimpled foam for enhanced fluid spreading) or Mepilex Border Flex (bordered with 360-degree flexibility) offer the highest absorption. If the wound also requires antimicrobial protection, Mepilex Ag (non-bordered) or Mepilex Border Ag (bordered) combine silver with strong absorption. What does Ag mean in Mepilex product names?
Ag is the chemical symbol for silver. Mepilex dressings with Ag in the name contain silver sulfate, which provides antimicrobial protection by inactivating wound-related pathogens within the dressing. Silver dressings are designed for wounds that show signs of infection or are at high risk of infection. If your wound is not infected or at risk, a non-silver Mepilex option may be more appropriate.
