Mepilex Foam Dressings are non-bordered soft silicone foam dressings from Molnlycke designed for a wide range of moderate to highly exuding chronic and acute wounds. As a non-bordered dressing, Mepilex Foam requires secondary fixation (such as a bandage, tape, or compression wrap) to hold it in place - making it a versatile choice for clinicians who want to control how the dressing is secured.

Each dressing features a Safetac silicone wound contact layer that adheres gently to intact skin but does not stick to the moist wound bed. This minimizes pain and trauma during dressing changes and allows the dressing to be lifted for wound inspection and reapplied without losing adhesion. The absorbent polyurethane foam pad maintains a moist wound environment while minimizing the risk of maceration.

Mepilex Foam is available in 6 sizes: 5 cm x 5 cm, 10 cm x 10 cm, 10 cm x 20 cm, 15 cm x 15 cm, 20 cm x 20 cm, and 20 cm x 50 cm. The 20 cm x 50 cm size can be cut to fit irregular wound shapes. All sizes are sold in boxes of sterile dressings and can be used under compression bandages or in combination with wound gels.

If you need a self-adherent dressing with a built-in border (no secondary fixation required), see Mepilex Border Dressings. For thinner coverage on low-exudate wounds, see Mepilex Lite Dressings. For higher absorption on heavily exuding wounds, see Mepilex Up Dressings. For wounds requiring antimicrobial silver, see Mepilex Ag Dressings.

Frequently Asked Questions ▾
What is the difference between Mepilex Foam and Mepilex Border?

Mepilex Foam is a non-bordered dressing that requires secondary fixation such as tape, a bandage, or a compression wrap. Mepilex Border dressings have a built-in self-adherent silicone border and do not require any additional fixation. Choose Mepilex Foam when you need flexibility in how the dressing is secured, or when using it under compression therapy.

What sizes are available in Mepilex Foam?

Mepilex Foam is available in six sizes: 5 cm x 5 cm, 10 cm x 10 cm, 10 cm x 20 cm, 15 cm x 15 cm, 20 cm x 20 cm, and 20 cm x 50 cm. The largest size (20 cm x 50 cm) can be cut to fit irregular wound shapes. All sizes are sold in boxes of sterile dressings.

Can Mepilex Foam be used under compression bandages?

Yes. Mepilex Foam is well suited for use under compression bandages and wraps. Its non-bordered design means the compression wrap itself acts as the fixation, and the dressing's low profile does not add unnecessary bulk beneath the bandage. This makes it a common choice for venous leg ulcer management with compression therapy.

Can Mepilex Foam be cut to size?

Yes. Mepilex Foam can be cut to fit irregular wound shapes, particularly the larger 20 cm x 50 cm size. When cutting, ensure the dressing still fully covers the wound with adequate overlap onto the surrounding skin. The Safetac contact layer will still function on the cut edges.

How long can Mepilex Foam be worn?

Mepilex Foam can be left in place for several days, depending on the wound condition and level of exudate. The dressing should be changed before it becomes fully saturated or as directed by your clinician. The Safetac layer allows the dressing to be lifted for wound inspection without loss of adhesion.
