Aquacel dressings in Canada — shop ConvaTec's full line of Hydrofiber wound dressings, organized into 7 categories above so you can quickly find the right product. Aquacel dressings are powered by ConvaTec's Hydrofiber technology, which gels on contact with wound fluid to lock in exudate, maintain a moist healing environment, and support comfortable dressing changes.
Choosing the right Aquacel dressing: The Aquacel range covers several distinct wound care needs. Two key decisions will narrow your options quickly:
-
Silver or no silver? Dressings with "Ag" in the name contain ionic silver for antimicrobial protection — designed for wounds that are infected or at risk of infection. Non-silver versions provide the same absorption and moist healing without the antimicrobial component.
-
Adhesive or non-adhesive? Adhesive dressings have a gentle silicone border that holds the dressing in place without additional tape. Non-adhesive dressings require a secondary dressing or tape to secure them — the right choice when the patient has adhesive sensitivity or when the clinician prefers to control the fixation method.
Beyond foam dressings: The Ag+ Extra Hydrofiber collection offers flat silver Hydrofiber sheets for use as a primary wound contact layer under a secondary cover dressing. Surgical Cover dressings are specifically designed for post-operative incisions. Ribbon & Hydrofiber dressings are for packing cavity and tunnelling wounds.
All 46 products in this collection are manufactured by ConvaTec, sterile, and latex-free. Free shipping on orders over $150, shipped within Canada only.
Aquacel Dressings FAQ
What is Hydrofiber technology?
Hydrofiber is ConvaTec's proprietary wound contact material made from sodium carboxymethylcellulose fibres. When it contacts wound fluid, it transforms into a soft cohesive gel that locks in exudate and helps maintain a moist wound environment. This vertical wicking action draws fluid into the dressing rather than letting it spread across the surrounding skin, reducing the risk of maceration. Hydrofiber is the core technology across all Aquacel product lines.
What does "Ag" mean in Aquacel product names?
"Ag" is the chemical symbol for silver. Aquacel Ag dressings contain ionic silver within the Hydrofiber layer, providing antimicrobial protection against a broad range of bacteria, yeasts, and moulds. Silver dressings are designed for wounds that are infected or at risk of infection. If antimicrobial protection is not needed, ConvaTec offers equivalent non-silver versions of each dressing type.
How do I choose between Aquacel Foam and Aquacel Hydrofiber sheet dressings?
Aquacel Foam dressings are multi-layer products that combine a Hydrofiber wound contact layer with a foam pad and waterproof film — they're all-in-one solutions, especially when paired with an adhesive border. Aquacel Hydrofiber sheet dressings (like Ag+ Extra) are flat primary wound contact layers that require a separate secondary cover dressing. Your clinician will recommend which format is appropriate based on the wound type, depth, exudate level, and treatment plan.
How long can Aquacel dressings be worn?
Most Aquacel dressings can be worn for up to 7 days, though they should be changed earlier if clinically indicated — for example, if the dressing becomes saturated, shifts, or if there are signs of infection. Aquacel dressings with silver (Ag) provide antimicrobial activity for up to 14 days in vitro, but dressing change frequency is determined by your clinician based on the wound's condition.
Can I shower with Aquacel dressings?
Aquacel Foam dressings and Surgical Cover dressings have a waterproof polyurethane film backing that allows patients to shower with the dressing in place. However, these dressings are water-resistant — not designed for submersion in a bath or swimming. Aquacel Hydrofiber sheet and ribbon dressings do not have a waterproof layer, so showering depends on the secondary cover dressing used. Always check with your clinician.
