Shop Barriers & Flanges by Type

Ostomy barriers and flanges in Canada — shop skin barriers (wafers) and flanges from Coloplast, Hollister, and ConvaTec. Barriers are the adhesive component of your ostomy system that attaches to your skin and protects the area around your stoma. Use the categories above to find the right type for your needs.

Not sure which type to choose? Start with how you want to size the opening. Pre-cut barriers come with a factory-cut hole — fastest to apply if your stoma is a standard round size. Cut-to-fit barriers let you trim a custom opening with scissors — best for oval or irregular stomas. Moldable barriers shape with your fingers — no cutting or measuring needed. If you're new to ostomy care or your stoma is still changing size after surgery, cut-to-fit gives you the most flexibility.

For 2-piece systems: Make sure the barrier's flange/coupling size matches your pouch. Convex inserts can be added to flat barriers if your stoma sits flush or below skin level. Pediatric barriers are sized for infants and children.

Finding your product: Use the Brand filter on the left to narrow results by manufacturer. Use Sort on the right to view by price or alphabetically. If you know your exact product name or model number, the search bar at the top of the page is the fastest way to find it.

Shipping: Canada only. Free shipping on orders over $150. If you're matching an existing product, confirm the size, cut-to-fit range, and coupling size on the product page before ordering.

Ostomy Barriers & Flanges FAQ

What is an ostomy barrier?
An ostomy barrier (also called a wafer, flange, or baseplate) is the adhesive disc that sticks to the skin around your stoma. It creates a secure seal between your skin and the ostomy pouch, protecting the surrounding skin from output. In a 2-piece system, the barrier connects to the pouch via a coupling mechanism.
Pre-cut, cut-to-fit, or moldable — which type do I need?
Pre-cut barriers have a factory-cut opening and are fastest to apply — ideal for stable, round stomas. Cut-to-fit barriers let you trim a custom opening, which is best for oval or irregular stomas or those still changing size. Moldable barriers shape with your fingers for a no-scissors custom fit. Many people start with cut-to-fit after surgery and switch to pre-cut or moldable once their stoma stabilizes.
How do I choose the right barrier size?
Measure your stoma using a stoma measuring guide. For pre-cut barriers, match the opening size to your measurement. For cut-to-fit, choose a barrier whose range covers your stoma size. For 2-piece systems, you also need to match the flange coupling size to your pouch. If you're reordering, matching the exact model number from your current packaging is the safest approach.
What is a convex barrier and when is it needed?
A convex barrier has a gentle outward curve that presses the skin down around the stoma, helping create a better seal. Convex barriers are commonly recommended for stomas that are flush with the skin, slightly retracted, or surrounded by creases or folds. You can also add convexity to a flat barrier using a disposable convex insert.
How often should I change my ostomy barrier?
Most manufacturers recommend changing your barrier every 3 to 7 days, depending on the product and your individual situation. Signs it's time to change include lifting edges, itching or irritation under the barrier, or reduced adhesion. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and your clinician's guidance.
Can I mix brands — for example, a Coloplast barrier with a Hollister pouch?
No — barriers and pouches from different manufacturers are not interchangeable. Each brand uses its own coupling mechanism, so a Coloplast barrier only works with Coloplast pouches, and the same applies to Hollister and ConvaTec. Always stay within the same brand and product line for your barrier and pouch combination.
