Biatain Dressings: Advanced Wound Care Solutions

Shipping within Canada only.

Biatain dressings are an advanced wound care line from Coloplast, designed for managing exuding wounds across a wide range of clinical settings. The line uses 3DFit Technology, a unique foam structure that conforms closely to the wound bed to reduce pooling of exudate, minimize the risk of maceration, and support a moist healing environment. Biatain dressings are available in foam, silicone, alginate, and hydrocapillary formats to match different wound types and exudate levels.

The Biatain range covers six product families, each suited to different wound care needs. Biatain Silicone dressings use a gentle silicone adhesive that reduces pain during dressing changes and minimizes trauma to fragile periwound skin. This is the broadest line, available in bordered, non-border, lite (thin), antimicrobial silver (Ag), and anatomically shaped sacral options. Biatain Foam dressings use a hydrocolloid adhesive border for secure adhesion on high-friction areas, and are also available without adhesive for use under compression or secondary dressings.

For wounds that are infected or at risk of infection, Biatain Ag Foam dressings contain a patented silver complex that provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity within the dressing. Biatain Super dressings are built for heavily exuding wounds, using a hydrocapillary pad that locks fluid away to reduce leakage and the need for frequent dressing changes. Biatain Ibu dressings release ibuprofen directly at the wound site for local pain relief between dressing changes - they are available in non-adhesive and soft-hold formats. Biatain Alginate dressings are calcium alginate fibres that gel on contact with wound fluid, making them suitable for moderate to heavily exuding wounds of any shape or depth, including cavity wounds when using the rope format.

All Biatain dressings are manufactured by Coloplast and are not made with natural rubber latex. Most foam and silicone formats can be worn for up to 7 days depending on wound conditions. Consult the product instructions for use and your healthcare provider for guidance on dressing selection and change frequency.

Frequently Asked Questions ▾
What types of wounds are Biatain dressings designed for?

Biatain dressings are designed for a broad range of exuding wounds, including pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, and donor sites. The specific product within the Biatain line depends on the wound's exudate level, whether infection is present, and the location on the body. Consult your healthcare provider for guidance on selecting the right dressing for your wound.

What is 3DFit Technology in Biatain dressings?

3DFit Technology is a foam structure used in Biatain Silicone and Biatain Foam dressings that conforms to the wound bed. This close fit helps reduce exudate pooling between the dressing and the wound surface, which can minimize the risk of maceration and support a moist healing environment. It is a feature of the dressing's physical design, not a coating or chemical treatment.

How long can a Biatain dressing be worn?

Most Biatain foam and silicone dressings can be worn for up to 7 days, depending on the amount of wound exudate and clinical conditions. Dressings should be changed when the exudate reaches the edge of the foam pad, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Alginate dressings may require more frequent changes depending on exudate volume.

What is the difference between Biatain Silicone and Biatain Foam?

Biatain Silicone dressings use a soft silicone adhesive layer that is gentle on the skin and reduces pain during removal. Biatain Foam dressings use a hydrocolloid adhesive border that provides firmer adhesion, which can be preferable on high-friction areas like the sacrum or heel. Both product lines use the same 3DFit foam core for absorption. Your healthcare provider can help determine which adhesive type is appropriate for your wound and skin condition.

Are Biatain dressings latex-free?

Yes. According to Coloplast, Biatain dressings are not made with natural rubber latex. This applies across the full Biatain range including Silicone, Foam, Ag, Super, Ibu, and Alginate products. If you have specific allergy concerns, review the product packaging or contact Coloplast directly at 1-866-293-6349 for detailed material information.
