Biatain Super works differently from the standard Biatain Foam. Instead of a polyurethane foam core, it uses a hydrocapillary pad that rapidly absorbs exudate vertically and distributes it horizontally across the full pad area. This fast absorption, distribution, and retention of fluid minimizes the risk of maceration and leakage, even in heavily exuding wounds. A high moisture vapour transmission rate through the top film further contributes to exudate management by allowing excess moisture to evaporate.
The dressing is an all-in-one solution with no need for additional wound contact layers. The semi-permeable top film is waterproof and bacteria-proof, and the hydrocolloid adhesive border provides secure adhesion. Biatain Super is available in 5 sizes: 10 x 10cm, 12.5 x 12.5cm, 12 x 20cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 20cm. The 12 x 20cm rectangular option is useful for larger or elongated wounds on the lower leg.
Biatain Super is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, second-degree burns, surgical wounds, and skin abrasions. It is suitable for use under compression therapy. These dressings are not made with natural rubber latex.
For wounds with moderate exudate that do not require the extra absorption capacity of Super, the standard Biatain Foam dressings are available in adhesive and non-adhesive formats. For wounds that are infected or at risk of infection, Biatain Ag Foam provides antimicrobial silver protection. For painful wounds, Biatain Ibu releases ibuprofen directly at the wound site. Consult your healthcare provider for guidance on dressing selection.
