Biatain Super dressings from Coloplast are highly absorbent hydrocapillary pad dressings designed for heavily exuding wounds. The super-absorbent particles absorb and retain high amounts of exudate, while fibres distribute the fluid through the pad to maximize the full absorption capacity. A non-adherent wound contact layer maintains a moist healing environment without sticking to the wound bed. All 5 sizes in this collection are adhesive with a hydrocolloid border.

Biatain Super works differently from the standard Biatain Foam. Instead of a polyurethane foam core, it uses a hydrocapillary pad that rapidly absorbs exudate vertically and distributes it horizontally across the full pad area. This fast absorption, distribution, and retention of fluid minimizes the risk of maceration and leakage, even in heavily exuding wounds. A high moisture vapour transmission rate through the top film further contributes to exudate management by allowing excess moisture to evaporate.

The dressing is an all-in-one solution with no need for additional wound contact layers. The semi-permeable top film is waterproof and bacteria-proof, and the hydrocolloid adhesive border provides secure adhesion. Biatain Super is available in 5 sizes: 10 x 10cm, 12.5 x 12.5cm, 12 x 20cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 20cm. The 12 x 20cm rectangular option is useful for larger or elongated wounds on the lower leg.

Biatain Super is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, second-degree burns, surgical wounds, and skin abrasions. It is suitable for use under compression therapy. These dressings are not made with natural rubber latex.

For wounds with moderate exudate that do not require the extra absorption capacity of Super, the standard Biatain Foam dressings are available in adhesive and non-adhesive formats. For wounds that are infected or at risk of infection, Biatain Ag Foam provides antimicrobial silver protection. For painful wounds, Biatain Ibu releases ibuprofen directly at the wound site. Consult your healthcare provider for guidance on dressing selection.

Frequently Asked Questions ▾
How is Biatain Super different from regular Biatain Foam?

Biatain Super uses a hydrocapillary pad with super-absorbent particles instead of the standard polyurethane foam core. This gives it significantly higher absorption capacity, making it suited for heavily exuding wounds where a standard foam dressing would become saturated too quickly. Biatain Super also includes a non-adherent wound contact layer built into the dressing, so no separate contact layer is needed.

What sizes are available in Biatain Super?

There are 5 sizes available: 10 x 10cm, 12.5 x 12.5cm, 12 x 20cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 20cm. All are adhesive with a hydrocolloid border. The 12 x 20cm rectangular option works well for larger or elongated wounds. Choose a size that allows the adhesive border to contact intact skin around the wound edges.

Can Biatain Super be used under compression therapy?

Yes. Biatain Super is suitable for use under compression therapy. The hydrocapillary pad maintains its absorption and retention properties under compression, making it appropriate for heavily exuding leg ulcers managed with compression bandaging.

How often should Biatain Super dressings be changed?

Change the dressing when it reaches its absorption capacity, if the dressing begins to lift, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Because Biatain Super has a higher absorption capacity than standard foam dressings, it may allow for longer intervals between changes on heavily exuding wounds. However, change frequency always depends on the individual wound conditions.

Do I need a separate wound contact layer with Biatain Super?

No. Biatain Super includes a built-in non-adherent wound contact layer that maintains a moist healing environment without sticking to the wound bed. This makes it an all-in-one dressing solution with no need for additional contact layers, which simplifies application and can reduce overall dressing costs.
