Aquacel Foam Adhesive dressings in Canada — shop ConvaTec's Hydrofiber foam dressings with a self-adhesive silicone border, designed for moderate to heavily exuding wounds where antimicrobial silver is not required. These dressings deliver the same multi-layer absorption and moist healing environment as the Ag (silver) line, without the antimicrobial component.

How Aquacel Foam Adhesive works: The Hydrofiber wound contact layer gels on contact with wound fluid, locking in exudate and helping maintain a moist environment that supports the body's natural healing process. A soft foam pad above the Hydrofiber layer absorbs excess fluid and adds cushioning for patient comfort. The waterproof polyurethane film backing allows moisture vapour to escape while providing a barrier against external contaminants, so patients can shower with the dressing in place. The gentle silicone adhesive border holds everything securely without sticking to the wound bed, making application and removal straightforward.

Who are these dressings for? Aquacel Foam Adhesive dressings are commonly used on partial-thickness burns, leg ulcers, pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, and other exuding wounds where a clinician has determined antimicrobial silver is not needed. The adhesive border means no additional tape or secondary dressing is required. If your wound care plan calls for antimicrobial protection, see the Aquacel Ag Foam Adhesive collection instead. If adhesive sensitivity is a concern, see Aquacel Foam Non-Adhesive.

Aquacel Foam Adhesive Dressings FAQ

What is the difference between Aquacel Foam and Aquacel Ag Foam?
Both product lines share the same multi-layer construction: Hydrofiber wound contact layer, soft foam pad, and waterproof outer film with a silicone adhesive border. The difference is that Aquacel Ag Foam includes ionic silver in the Hydrofiber layer for antimicrobial protection, while Aquacel Foam does not contain silver. Your clinician will determine whether silver is needed based on your wound's infection risk.
How long can Aquacel Foam Adhesive dressings be worn?
Aquacel Foam dressings can be worn for up to 7 days, though they should be changed earlier if clinically indicated — for example, if the dressing becomes saturated, shifts, or if there are signs of complications. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use and your clinician's guidance on dressing change frequency.
Can I shower with Aquacel Foam Adhesive dressings?
Yes. The waterproof polyurethane film backing allows patients to shower with the dressing in place. However, the dressing is water-resistant rather than fully waterproof for submersion — avoid prolonged soaking in a bath or swimming. If the edges lift after showering, pat dry gently and check that the seal remains secure around the wound.
What sizes are available in Aquacel Foam Adhesive?
This collection includes 8 sizes: 7.5 cm × 7.5 cm, 10 cm × 10 cm, 12.5 cm × 12.5 cm, 17.5 cm × 17.5 cm, 21 cm × 21 cm, and 25 cm × 30 cm in standard square and rectangle shapes, plus an anatomically shaped heel dressing (19.8 cm × 14 cm) and a sacral dressing (20 cm × 16.9 cm). Choose a size where the absorbent pad extends at least 1 cm beyond the wound edge on all sides.
What is Hydrofiber technology?
Hydrofiber is ConvaTec's proprietary wound contact material made from sodium carboxymethylcellulose fibres. When it comes into contact with wound fluid, it transforms into a soft gel that locks in exudate and helps maintain a moist wound environment. This vertical wicking action draws fluid upward into the foam pad rather than letting it spread laterally across the skin, which helps reduce the risk of maceration around the wound edges.
