Exufiber Gelling Fibre Dressings from Molnlycke are sterile nonwoven wound dressings made from highly absorbent polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibres. On contact with wound fluid, the fibres transform into a soft, conformable gel that helps maintain a moist healing environment and supports comfortable removal at dressing changes. Exufiber features Hydrolock Technology, which provides high tensile strength so the dressing can be removed in one piece — saving time and reducing discomfort.

Exufiber dressings are designed for a wide range of exuding wounds including leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, partial thickness burns, surgical wounds, donor sites, and malignant wounds. The high retention capacity helps prevent leakage and maceration, even under compression therapy. Exufiber can be left in place for up to 7 days depending on wound condition, and is safe to use during radiation therapy, X-ray, and MRI.
This collection includes 5 sizes: four flat pad dressings (5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 30cm) and one ribbon dressing (2 x 45cm) for packing cavity and tunnelling wounds. All dressings require a secondary dressing for fixation. If you need antimicrobial protection with silver, see our Exufiber Ag+ Antimicrobial Gelling Fibre Dressings collection.

Frequently Asked Questions ▾
What sizes are available in the Exufiber standard range?
Exufiber is available in five sizes: 5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 30cm flat pads, plus a 2 x 45cm ribbon dressing for packing cavity and tunnelling wounds. The smaller pads come in boxes of 10, while the 20 x 30cm pad and ribbon come in boxes of 5.
How does Exufiber work?
Exufiber is made from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gelling fibres. On contact with wound fluid, the fibres absorb exudate and transform into a soft gel. This maintains a moist wound environment and supports comfortable removal. Hydrolock Technology gives the dressing high tensile strength so it can typically be removed in one piece.
How long can Exufiber stay in place?
Exufiber can be left in place for up to 7 days depending on wound condition, or as directed by your healthcare provider. The dressing should be inspected regularly for signs of infection according to clinical practice.
Does Exufiber require a secondary dressing?
Yes. Exufiber is a primary wound contact dressing and requires fixation with an appropriate secondary dressing. It can also be used under compression bandaging. Your healthcare provider can recommend the best secondary dressing for your wound type.
What is the difference between Exufiber and Exufiber Ag+?
Exufiber and Exufiber Ag+ use the same PVA gelling fibre technology. The difference is that Exufiber Ag+ is coated with silver sulphate on both sides, which provides antimicrobial activity. Your healthcare provider can help determine whether the standard or silver version is appropriate for your wound.
