Exufiber Ag+ Antimicrobial Gelling Fibre Dressings from Molnlycke combine the same highly absorbent polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gelling fibre technology as standard Exufiber with silver sulphate coating. On contact with wound fluid, the PVA fibres absorb exudate and transform into a soft, conformable gel that conforms to the wound bed. The silver releases ions that are shown to inactivate a broad range of wound-related pathogens including bacteria, fungi, and moulds (in vitro).

Exufiber Ag+ promotes autolytic debridement to help break down slough and support a clean wound bed at dressing removal. The tightly packed fibres lock in exudate while capillary action efficiently transfers fluid to the secondary dressing, reducing the risk of pooling, leakage, and maceration — even under compression. The dressing stays intact for clean one-piece removal, and can be left in place for up to 7 days. Exufiber Ag+ is also shown to help prevent the reformation of biofilm (in vivo, as part of a holistic biofilm management approach).
This collection includes 5 sizes: four flat pad dressings (5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 30cm) and one ribbon dressing (2 x 45cm) for packing deep wounds and cavities. All dressings require a secondary dressing for fixation. If antimicrobial protection is not required, see our Exufiber Gelling Fibre Dressings collection for the standard non-silver version.

Frequently Asked Questions ▾
What sizes are available in the Exufiber Ag+ range?
Exufiber Ag+ is available in five sizes: 5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, 15 x 15cm, and 20 x 30cm flat pads, plus a 2 x 45cm ribbon dressing for packing deep wounds and cavities. The 5 x 5cm, 10 x 10cm, and 15 x 15cm pads come in boxes of 10, while the 20 x 30cm pad and ribbon come in boxes of 5.
How does the silver in Exufiber Ag+ work?
Exufiber Ag+ is coated with silver sulphate. On contact with wound fluid, the dressing releases silver ions that are shown to inactivate a broad range of wound-related pathogens including bacteria, fungi, and moulds (in vitro). The antimicrobial effect is rapid and sustained for up to 7 days (in vitro). Your healthcare provider can determine whether a silver dressing is appropriate for your wound.
How long can Exufiber Ag+ stay in place?
Exufiber Ag+ can be left in place for up to 7 days, supporting undisturbed wound healing. The dressing should be inspected regularly for signs of infection according to clinical practice. Your healthcare provider can advise on the appropriate change frequency for your wound.
What is the difference between Exufiber and Exufiber Ag+?
Both products use the same PVA gelling fibre technology for high absorption and gel formation. The key difference is that Exufiber Ag+ includes silver sulphate for antimicrobial activity and is shown to help prevent biofilm reformation. Exufiber Ag+ is intended for medium to highly exuding wounds, while standard Exufiber is designed for a broader range of exuding wounds. Your healthcare provider can help determine which version is appropriate.
Does Exufiber Ag+ help with biofilm?
Exufiber Ag+ is shown to reduce biofilm bacteria and help prevent biofilm reformation (in vivo), as part of a holistic biofilm management approach that includes cleansing, debridement, and reassessment as per international guidelines. Your healthcare provider can advise on whether biofilm management is relevant to your wound care plan.
