This collection brings together two specialized Biatain Silicone products from Coloplast. Biatain Silicone Ag dressings contain a patented silver complex for antimicrobial protection in wounds that are infected or at risk of infection. Biatain Silicone Sacral dressings are anatomically shaped to fit the sacrum area for pressure injury prevention and treatment. Both use the same 3DFit Technology foam and gentle silicone adhesive found across the Biatain Silicone line.

Biatain Silicone Ag dressings are designed for exuding wounds with delayed healing due to bacteria, or where there is a risk of infection. The patented silver complex releases silver ions in the presence of wound exudate, providing broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and beta-haemolytic Streptococcus. The silver release is sustained throughout the entire wear time of up to 7 days. The 3DFit foam conforms closely to the wound bed, which minimizes dead space where bacteria can grow and creates optimal conditions for silver ion delivery. Biatain Silicone Ag is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, second-degree burns, donor sites, postoperative wounds, and skin abrasions, and can be used with compression therapy. Available in 3 sizes: 7.5 x 7.5cm, 10 x 10cm, and 12.5 x 12.5cm.

Biatain Silicone Sacral dressings are shaped to fit the contours of the sacrum, which is one of the most common sites for pressure injuries. The silicone adhesive border keeps the dressing in place during repositioning and movement without bunching or folding. These dressings carry a pressure injury prevention indication in addition to wound treatment. Available in 2 sizes: a small sacral (15 x 19cm) and a large sacral (25 x 25cm).

All products in this collection are manufactured by Coloplast and are not made with natural rubber latex. They feature the same 3-piece non-touch opening for aseptic application found across the Biatain Silicone range.

For general wound care without antimicrobial silver, the standard Biatain Silicone Bordered is available in 5 square sizes. For wounds requiring no adhesive border, Biatain Silicone Non-Border can be cut to fit and used under compression. For low-exudate wounds where a thinner profile is preferred, Biatain Silicone Lite offers a more flexible option. Consult your healthcare provider for guidance on dressing selection.

Frequently Asked Questions ▾
When should Biatain Silicone Ag be used instead of the standard Biatain Silicone?

Biatain Silicone Ag is intended for wounds that are infected or considered at risk of infection. The patented silver complex provides antimicrobial activity that the standard Biatain Silicone does not have. If the wound shows signs of infection such as increased redness, heat, swelling, or odour, your healthcare provider may recommend switching to the Ag version. It should not be used as a routine first-choice dressing on clean, non-infected wounds.

How long does the silver remain active in Biatain Silicone Ag?

According to Coloplast, the patented silver complex provides a sustained release of silver ions throughout the entire wear time of up to 7 days. The silver is released in the presence of wound exudate, so it begins working as soon as the dressing contacts the wound fluid. Change the dressing as directed by your healthcare provider based on the wound assessment.

Can the Biatain Silicone Sacral dressings be used for pressure injury prevention?

Yes. The Biatain Silicone Sacral dressings carry a pressure injury prevention indication from Coloplast. Their anatomical shape fits the sacrum area and the silicone adhesive keeps the dressing in place during repositioning and movement. They can be applied to intact skin as a preventive measure for patients at risk of sacral pressure injuries, as well as used on existing wounds in the sacral area.

What sizes are available in this collection?

Biatain Silicone Ag is available in 3 square sizes: 7.5 x 7.5cm, 10 x 10cm, and 12.5 x 12.5cm. Biatain Silicone Sacral is available in 2 anatomically shaped sizes: a small sacral at 15 x 19cm and a large sacral at 25 x 25cm. The sacral sizes refer to the overall dressing dimensions including the adhesive border.

Are these dressings latex-free?

Yes. According to Coloplast, all Biatain Silicone dressings including the Ag and Sacral variants are not made with natural rubber latex. If you have specific allergy concerns, review the product packaging or contact Coloplast directly at 1-866-293-6349 for detailed material information.
