Mextra Superabsorbent is a superabsorbent dressing from Molnlycke with a unique four-layer construction designed for moderately to highly exuding wounds. The hydrophilic wound contact layer transmits fluid upwards through a distribution layer into the superabsorbent core, which locks in exudate and reduces the risk of maceration and leakage. The fluid-repellent backing prevents strike-through, keeping the outer surface dry and protecting clothing and bed linen.

The polyacrylate superabsorbent particles in the absorbent layer have protease modulating properties that support a conducive environment for wound healing. Mextra Superabsorbent maintains its integrity and does not become bulky as it absorbs, with softened borders for enhanced conformability and patient comfort.
Mextra Superabsorbent can be used as a primary dressing directly on the wound or as a secondary dressing where high absorbency is required. It works well in combination with wound contact layers such as Mepitel or Mepitel One. It can be used under compression bandages for venous leg ulcers. Apply with the white side facing the wound. Do not cut the dressing. Maximum wear time is 7 days.
This collection includes 7 sizes ranging from 12.5 x 12.5cm to 22.5 x 42.5cm. All sizes come in boxes of 10 sterile individually packaged dressings. Mextra Superabsorbent requires fixation with a suitable bandage such as Tubifast or a fixation tape like Mefix or Mepitac.

Mextra Superabsorbent Dressings FAQ
What sizes does Mextra Superabsorbent come in?
Mextra Superabsorbent is available in seven sizes: 12.5 x 12.5cm, 12.5 x 17.5cm, 12.5 x 22.5cm, 17.5 x 22.5cm, 22.5 x 27.5cm, 22.5 x 32.5cm, and 22.5 x 42.5cm. All sizes come in boxes of 10 sterile individually packaged dressings.
How does the four-layer construction work?
The hydrophilic wound contact layer transmits fluid upwards into the distribution layer, which directs exudate evenly into the superabsorbent core. The core absorbs and locks in exudate using polyacrylate superabsorbent particles. The fluid-repellent backing layer prevents strike-through to the outside of the dressing.
Can Mextra Superabsorbent be cut to size?
No. Mextra Superabsorbent should not be cut. Cutting the dressing would compromise the superabsorbent core and the fluid-repellent backing. Select a size that overlaps the wound area by at least 2cm.
Can Mextra Superabsorbent be used under compression?
Yes. Mextra Superabsorbent can be used under compression bandages, making it suitable for venous leg ulcer management. Secure the dressing with a suitable bandage or fixation tape before applying compression.
What is the difference between Mesorb and Mextra Superabsorbent?
Both are highly absorbent dressings from Molnlycke for moderate to heavily exuding wounds. Mextra Superabsorbent has a four-layer construction with polyacrylate superabsorbent particles that have protease modulating properties, softened borders for conformability, and cannot be cut. Mesorb uses a fluff pulp core, can be cut to shape, and is available in different sizes. Your healthcare provider can advise which is best for your wound.
