Mesalt is a cleansing sodium chloride dressing from Molnlycke designed to stimulate the cleansing of moderate to heavily exuding wounds. The absorbent viscose/polyester non-woven dressing is impregnated with sodium chloride, which creates an osmotic effect and a hypertonic environment in the wound. As wound discharge contacts the dressing, the sodium chloride is released, drawing out exudate containing bacteria and necrotic material to facilitate natural wound healing.

Mesalt is intended for the management of moderate to heavily exuding non-infected and infected wounds such as pressure injuries, foot ulcers, and deep wound management including cavity wounds and fistulas. The dressing is strong enough to withstand handling during use and removal, and can be cut to shape. It requires a secondary dressing for fixation, and compression therapy may be used in conjunction with Mesalt where clinically indicated. Mesalt should be changed when saturated, at least once daily.
This collection includes 4 sizes: three flat pad dressings (5 x 5cm, 7.5 x 7.5cm, and 10 x 10cm) and one ribbon dressing (2 x 100cm) for packing deep wounds and cavities. The pads come in boxes of 30 and the ribbon comes in boxes of 10. All dressings are sterile and individually packaged.

Mesalt Dressings FAQ
What sizes does Mesalt come in?
Mesalt is available in four sizes: 5 x 5cm, 7.5 x 7.5cm, and 10 x 10cm flat pads (30 per box), plus a 2 x 100cm ribbon dressing for packing deep wounds and cavities (10 per box). All dressings are sterile and individually packaged and can be cut to shape.
How does Mesalt work?
Mesalt is impregnated with sodium chloride. When wound discharge contacts the dressing, the sodium chloride is released, creating an osmotic effect and hypertonic environment. This draws exudate containing bacteria and necrotic material out of the wound, stimulating wound cleansing and facilitating natural healing.
How often should Mesalt be changed?
Mesalt should be changed when saturated, at least once a day, or according to clinical practice. If the condition of the wound deteriorates, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
What types of wounds is Mesalt designed for?
Mesalt is intended for moderate to heavily exuding non-infected and infected wounds including pressure injuries, foot ulcers, cavity wounds, and fistulas. It should not be used on dry wounds or allowed to come into direct contact with exposed bone or tendon.
Does Mesalt require a secondary dressing?
Yes. Mesalt is a primary wound contact dressing and requires fixation with an appropriate secondary dressing. The choice of secondary dressing depends on the level of exudate. Compression therapy may also be used in conjunction with Mesalt where clinically indicated.
