Mepitel Film is a thin, elastic polyurethane film with a Safetac soft silicone adhesive layer. Safetac is Molnlycke's proprietary technology, used across their Mepilex, Mepitel, and Mepiform product lines. The silicone adhesive bonds gently to dry, intact skin but does not stick to moist wound surfaces. This means the dressing can be repositioned during application and removed without stripping the skin or causing pain.
The film is fully transparent, allowing continuous visual monitoring of the skin or wound underneath without removing the dressing. It is showerproof, breathable, and acts as a barrier against bacteria and viruses larger than 25 nm. Mepitel Film maintains a moist environment while allowing excess moisture to pass through, and its adhesion level does not increase over time. It leaves no residue on removal.
Mepitel Film is commonly used for protection of fragile or sensitive skin, management of stage I and II pressure injuries, superficial burns, and superficial skin injuries. It can also serve as a protective cover over open surgical wounds, as a secondary dressing to fixate a primary dressing, or in combination with topical gels and ointments. Clinical research has shown Mepitel Film to be effective in preventing radiotherapy-induced skin reactions when applied from the first day of treatment.
Mepitel Film is not intended for use as primary fixation for IV lines, cannulae, ports, or other infusion or life-sustaining devices. It is not a wound contact layer and does not allow wound exudate to pass through to a secondary dressing. For exuding wounds requiring a wound contact layer, see Molnlycke's Mepitel or Mepitel One products.
All four sizes come in boxes of 10 individually sterile-packed dressings. For the smaller sizes (up to 10 x 12 cm), the dressing should overlap dry surrounding skin by 1-2 cm. For the larger sizes, a 5 cm overlap is recommended to ensure secure fixation.
Use the filters and sort options above to find the size you need. If you are unsure which size is appropriate, consult your healthcare professional for guidance.
