This indwelling Foley catheter is used to drain urine from the bladder over an extended period. The Coude (curved) tip is designed to navigate around an enlarged prostate or other tight passages where a straight tip is hard to advance.
The 14 Fr (Charrière) outer diameter is a mid-range size. The 5-10 mL retention balloon at the tip is filled with sterile water after insertion to hold the catheter in place. Silicone-elastomer coating reduces latex content compared with all-latex catheters.
